It's about two weeks since I've left Bristol, but it seems much longer than that.
It was a really great weekend. Thursday night, after what seemed like a lifelong of a flight with a small child called George screaming across the row from me for an hour, Jamie met me at the airport. We went to this unbelievable little takeaway called "Magic Roll". It really was magic. I have no idea what was in it, but it was magical.Friday, Jamie took the day off work and we went to Bath. Bath is a gorgeous city. The marble buildings, the architecture, the bright and busy streets. We went to the Roman Baths and I had my history-geek fill for the next good while. I could probably write an entire entry on the Baths, but I'll save you all the pain of reading about how awesome I think Roman history is. After that, we wandered around, had a terrific lunch, and meandered down to a neat little second-hand and antique bookstore. I found a book entitled, "The Romantic Cities of Canada" (circa 1920) or something to that effect and had a laugh flipping through the pages about Winnipeg.
Steamy Roman baths.
On Saturday, Jamie took us to the seaside. It was a gorgeous day outside- sunny, clear, and just a little bit chilly. We walked along the beach for a couple of hours, drew in the sand and took some pictures of Vincent (my traveling gnome). Then we had some fish and chips at a cute little seaside chippy... Well, I has fish and chips. Jamie had (believe it or not) battered sausage and chips! Yes, they do that here. They make battered sausage. Sausage covered in batter. Deep-fried. They seem to be willing to batter everything over here. But I did have a bite and it was tasty.

That evening, after taking a lovely drive back through Cheddar gorge, I made Jamie perogies and borscht that I picked up from a little Polish grocery. The perogies were mediocre, but the borscht was kind of disappointing. It wasn't Baba's perogies or borscht, that's for sure. I'll have to make him some homemade Ukrainian food sometime to show him what it's really about. Later on that evening,we went out to a couple of different bars with some of Jamie's friends. They were definitely a fun bunch, I really enjoyed hanging with them all. We had a great night!
The next day we had a bit of a lie-in (I think we needed to) and had some awesome mushroom omelettes, courtesy of chef Jamie (how funny is it that I almost typed "Oliver" right after that without meaning to). We spent the day just hanging out, a nice lazy Sunday.
It was a really fantastic weekend.
Anyway, back in Edinburgh now. New flatmates have moved in as of today, and it's just a matter of finding a new job next. I need to work on stressing less, that's one thing I've learned. Flat situation is dealt with, job situation is just another item on the list. Simples.
Mmm zucchini bake in the oven.
