Sunshine.

The past week in Edinburgh has brought absolutely beautiful weather. Sunny, in the high teens of degrees and a slight breeze to tickle the city air. Even better, I was able to enjoy it with Jamie and his friends from Bristol.
Jamie, Phil, Temi and Nick arrived on Friday night after a 6 hour drive from Bristol. Saturday evening after I got off from a long 9hr shift at work, Jamie and I went back to mine for some lasagna and beer before a night out. We met Betty at the Amber Rose for a few before heading to The Jam House for some awesome live music and dancing. Albeit filled with cougars, it was such an awesome venue with a great live band and a DJ afterwards. We danced until we could no more and after a sad moment realizing the chippers had closed an hour early due to the time change, we headed home.
Sunday was a beautiful day. We walked up Calton Hill and after that, Arthur's Seat. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather. Nick drove us all to a beach outside of town that was covered with seashells. We enjoyed the serenity for a while before falling asleep in the car like little kids tired from a day out on the way to Nick's parents' house. Mr. & Mrs. Watt, incredibly hospitable and lovely people made us a wonderful Sunday roast dinner. After dinner and dessert and during a glass of whisky, Mrs. Watt talked about various holidays with Temi and I while Mr. Watt talked about single malts with the boys.
Everyone was really grateful to Nick for inviting us into his home, it was such a good evening. I told him I appreciated it an incredible amount, being at a family dinner when I hadn't seen my family in over 6 months; it was like being at home again.

Monday afternoon we spent an hour in the beer gardens at a great student pub called the Pear Tree and later a tasty dinner at Buffalo Grill- hearty beef burgers covered in blue and white cheese. It reminded me a bit of Montana's but instead of a giant restaurant it was a little hole-in-the-wall gem. Jamie and I went to The Stand comedy club for rookie night to meet up with Renee and her visiting American friend, Travis.
The next afternoon we went to the National Museum where we enjoyed some interactive science exhibits (see: Jamie "driving" an F1... that was actually a child-sized car that he managed to squeeze himself into) and a really neat space exhibit. Mind blowing fact: There are more stars in galaxies of the universe than grains of sand in all of the beaches of the world.
After the museum we got a "99" at an ice cream truck in Holyrood Park. Jamie had been raving about this mysterious ice cream for the past two days and he insisted (well, really who was I to object to ice cream?) that I try one. It's essentially soft serve (but not the crappy kind you get in Canada... this stuff is so unbelievably creamy. It doesn't taste like oil-based mix/powder that you put into a machine. It's real dairy.) with a Cadbury flake bar stuck in it. SO TASTY!
We had a picnic later that afternoon in the park and lazed in the grass until the sun set. It was a lovely evening.

Wednesday afternoon we went to Portobello beach. A gorgeous afternoon was spent with our toes in the sand and dipping our feet into the sea. Sadly, Jamie left yesterday evening back to Bristol.

Now it's back to work. But first, I'm going to enjoy some more of the sunshine outside.
